What are the different types of nbn™ technologies?
There are 7 nbn™ access types based upon different network technology. It is important to note that ACN does not offer all nbn™ access types.
- Fibre to the Premises (FTTP): Connects to the nbn™ network via a direct connection to the customer’s premises using fibre cabling. NBN Co will install equipment in the customer’s premises including a Network Termination Device (NTD) to activate the service. ACN offers this nbn™ access type.
- Fixed Wireless: Connects to the nbn™ network via a wireless access link to the closest nbn™ base station. The premises must be in line with the base station. NBN Co will install equipment in the customer’s premises including a Network Termination Device (NTD) to activate the service. ACN offers this nbn™ access type.
- Fibre to the Basement (FTTB): Connects to the nbn™ network via a direct connection to the customer’s Main Distribution Frame (MDF) generally located within the communications area within the building complex. The customer will then need to use their existing copper infrastructure or install new wiring to connect the service from the MDF to their premises. ACN offers this nbn™ access type.
- Fibre to the Node (FTTN): Connects to the nbn™ network via a direct connection to the nearest node. NBN Co uses the customer’s existing copper infrastructure to connect the service from the node to the premises. ACN offers this nbn™ access type.
- Fibre to the Curb (FTTC): Connects to the nbn™ network via a direct connection from a small node located on the curb. NBN Co will provide a Network Connection Device (NCD) for installation in the customer’s premises. ACN offers this nbn™ access type.
- HFC: Connects to the nbn™ network via a direct cable connection to the nearest node. NBN Co will then utilise the customer’s existing cable infrastructure to connect the service from the node to the premises. ACN offers this nbn™ access type.
- Satellite: Satellite technology is being deployed to fulfil the Australian Government’s policy to ensure all Australians have access to fast broadband. ‘Sky Muster’ Satellite is rolled out to approximately 200,000 homes. ACN does not offer nbn™ satellite services.
