What’s the difference between connecting via WiFi or Ethernet for Video calling?
WiFi
WiFi allows an electronic device to exchange data wirelessly over a computer network. As the data is transmitted over the air, there are many factors that will cause an non-continuous connection and reduced signal strength.
Factors that contribute to decreased WiFi Strength:
- The distance between your modem router and your WiFi enabled devices.
- In locations where home and office buildings are close together, there may be wireless networks nearby that can conflict with your wireless connection.
- The wireless speed on your modem router.
- Obstacles and interference: Do not install or place your modem router and videophone near the following as these emit radio noise;
- Refrigerators
- Washing Machines and/or dryers
- Metal cabinets
- Large aquariums
- Metallic-based, UV-tinted windows
- Large/thick walls
Ethernet Connections
Ethernet connections involve connecting your modem router directly to your device such as your computer, laptop or video phone via an Ethernet Cable. Ethernet connections provide relatively high continuous data rates. As data does not need to travel through air the connection is more reliable and continuous.
For optimum video calling quality we recommend you connect the IRIS X via the Ethernet (cable) connection. Ethernet connections provide you with a consistent, stronger connection to the Internet capable of handling the bandwidth requirements of a Video call.
